WHY DO PHILOSOPHY?

Karen Pilkington
1959-2000

Karen was a much-loved adjunct instructor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Alberta from 1996-1999. She died of leukemia in 2000, and gave this interview from a hospital bed a few months before her death. The qualities that made us admire her as a philosopher and love her as a person shine through in her answers.

The Karen Pilkington Scholarship in the History of Philosophy is awarded bi-annually to an undergraduate at the UofA. Tax-deductible donations to the scholarship endowment (payable to the University of Alberta) can be sent to Karen Pilkington Memorial Fund, Department of Philosophy, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada T6G 2E5.
