Winter Courses 2013
| This course will aquaint students with the history of the discipline of Folklore. The objective of the course is to encourage students to examine artistic expression in everyday life and to build awareness of the many meanings such expression may hold. More | Different cultures organize time in different ways. Ukrainian time is cyclical and very much tied to the agrarian calendar year. Over the centuries, this indigenous view of time has accommodated itself to Christianity, the Soviet system, and the modern industrial market economy, all of which view time as linear and progressing forward. Thus, studying calendar customs offers excellent opportunities for examining the Ukrainian view of the world and the process of adjusting to change. Instruction in English. |
