Ukrainian Folklore Audio Project

Do you understand Ukrainian?

Do you like Ukrainian stories and songs?

Would you like to listen to some?

Professor Natalie Kononenko at the University of Alberta has just received a Federal Grant to work with the public to recruit volunteers to listen to the stories and either write them down in Ukrainian or in English.

A special website is made where you can "checkout" a sound recording of a story or a song. You will listen to it and type out the story in Ukrainian or English. After that you will send the text to Natalie and she and the graduate students will edit it. Once that is done the final story will be placed on the website with your name as the transcriber or translator, or if you prefer it can be "anonymous".

There will be a workshop organized for volunteers.

If you are interested in helping the rest of the world appreciate Ukrainian culture please contact the project team:
