Ukrainian Studies

§  American Association for Ukrainian Studies (AAUS)
Founded in 1989, the multidisciplinary AAUS is dedicated to furthering knowledge about Ukraine and popularizing Ukrainian studies. It normally meets in mid-November, in conjunction with the annual conference of the AAASS, or in April, in conjunction with the annual conference of the ASN. § Canadian Association for Ukrainian Studies  (CAUS)
The CAUS normally meets in late May - early June, in conjunction with the annual conference of the CAS.

Both the AAUS and the CAUS participate in the congresses of the International Association for Ukrainian Studies (IAUS), which take place every three years in Ukraine. [The web site of the IAUS was recently infected by a virus. We do not recommend visiting it, until further notice.]

Slavic Studies, including Ukrainian

All of the associations listed below organize a yearly conference or convention. Please study their web sites to obtain details. Conferences devoted to specific aspects of Ukrainian studies are announced in the NEWS section of our own web site.

 
§ Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) (formerly known as the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies  [AAASS].) This organization is devoted to the study of the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe. Its annual national convention is normally held in mid November. (Graduate students may apply for Davis Travel Grants to present papers at the ASEEES convention).

§ American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL). This association aspires to advance the study and promote the teaching of Slavic and East European languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels. Its annual conference is held at the end of December.

§ Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN). This organization studies ethnicity and nationalism from Europe to Eurasia. Its Annual World Convention takes place at Columbia University (NYC) in mid April.

§ Canadian Association of Slavists (CAS) / Association Canadienne des Slavistes (ACS).  One of the 69 learned societies that comprise the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (CFHSS), the CAS / ACS  normally meets in late May - early June, in conjunction with the Federation's Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The journal published by the CAS /ACS: Canadian Slavonic Papers  /  Revue Canadienne des Slavistes is housed in our department.

§ The Early Slavic Studies Association (devoted to pre-eighteenth century cultures, publishes a Newsletter.)

§ Slavic Linguistics Society publishes the Journal of Slavic Linguistics

Comparative Literature

§ Canadian Comparative Literature Association(CCLA) / Association canadienne de Literature Comparée  (ACLCC).  The annual meeting of this association, like that of the CAS/ACS takes place in conjuction with the Congress of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The journal published by the CCLA / ACLCC: Canadian Review of Comparative Literature / Revue canadienne de littérature comparée is housed in the Comparative Literature Program (OIS) of our own Faculty of Arts.
 

Modern Language Association (MLA)

§  The MLA's annual convention takes place at the end of December.  Among its several publications is the journal PMLA, which publishes members' essays of interest to scholars and teachers of language and literature.
