Mexican Indigenous Languages

Depending on how you want to count them, Mexico has over 100 indigenous languages belonging to a dozen or so distinct language families. Many Mesoamerican cultures were highly urbanized and technologically sophisticated; they worked soft metals, and had advanced systems of irrigation, science, and mathematics. Mesoamerica was also one of the three or four places on the planet where people independently invented writing.
