Angélica Mendoza, Portuguese instructor
Angélica Mendoza studied Language Arts (Portuguese and Spanish) at the Faculty of Philosophy, Language Arts and Human Sciences (FFLCH) and Education at the Faculty of Education (FE), both at the University of São Paulo (USP). She taught Portuguese (language and literatures) and Spanish as a second language in Brazil. In 1997 at FFLCH, under the supervision of the Professor Dr. Neide T. Maia González, she started her Master’s Degree in Linguistics, developing her research in second language learning and acquisition, focusing her master’s thesis on second language oral assessment. She is co-author of the textbook Hacia el Español, Curso de Lengua y Cultura Hispánica (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels)), Saraiva Publisher (1994, 1995, 1996). She worked as a Spanish professor at the Modern Language Department at the Faculty of Philosophy, Language Arts and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo until 2000 and now she teaches Portuguese at the University of Alberta. Areas of interest: Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics, Text-Linguistics, Pragmatics and Conversation Analysis.
