Danish Language Courses at Askov Højskole
Askov
Højskole near Vejen in Jutland offers courses
“Dansk på Askov” in Danish language at different
levels, including beginners. The courses are of two-week duration
and are held in August every year. In addition to language instruction,
the courses also cover lectures on Danish culture. Students will
participate in several fieldtrips as well. The fee covers room
and board, excursions, instruction and materials.

Danish
Language Courses at Studieskolen in Copenhagen
Studieskolen in Copenhagen is an independent organization
which, in cooperation with the University of Copenhagen, offers
a variety of courses in Danish language. Typically participants
must have a Danish resident's permit and be registered as a resident
in a Danish municipality (prospective students can apply for a
Danish resident's permit at Danish embassies or consulates abroad).
In addition, the school offers an intensive 3-week course for
beginners in the summer (usually held in July) for non-Danish
speakers who do not have a resident's permit. Studieskolen
is unable to arrange for permits, accommodation or grants.

Danish
Language Courses at University of Copenhagen
The
International Office at the University of Copenhagen arranges
in cooperation with Studieskolen in Copenhagen summer courses
in August for foreign students. The 3-week courses are offered
at all levels, including beginners' level, and can be combined
with the 3-week course offered by Studieskolen in July (see above).

Danish
Language Courses at The Danish Cultural Institute
Det Danske Kulturinstitut (The Danish Cultural Institute )
arranges a summer course (usually in July) in Danish language
and culture — “Danmark, Danskerne, Dansk” —
at one of the residential folk high schools in Denmark. The one-week
course is not for beginners but is aimed at students who already
have a basic command of the Danish language. The course includes
language instruction, lectures, discussions, films and excursions.
The fee covers room and board, excursions, instruction and materials.
Registration deadline is in May.

Danish
Language Courses at The International People's College
Den Internationale Højskole (The International People's
College) in Helsingør offers short intensive courses in
Danish language in the summer to small groups at the beginners'
level. "Meet Denmark-Learn Danish" totals 40 hours of
formal instruction over a 2-week period, and "Danish Language,
Culture and Society" totals 55 hours of instruction over
a 2-week period. Longer courses ranging from 8-36 weeks in duration
are also offered during the fall, winter and spring terms. Fees
include room and board.

ICELAND
International
Summer Course in Icelandic at the University of Iceland
The
Course is primarily intended for university students of language
and literature, but anyone outside Iceland interested in Modern
Icelandic and Icelandic culture is welcome to apply. Approximately
45 students can be accepted in the Course. Instruction is mainly
in Icelandic, but English will serve as the second language in
teaching. A certificate will be issued upon completion of the
Course.

NORWAY
The International Summer School at the University of Oslo
The
School is a center for learning in an international context, offering
courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Health Care and Physical
Education to three hundred students from an average of sixty nations
every summer. The School is financially and academically part
of the University of Oslo. This means that its students enjoy
tuition-free education (the students pay room, board and registration
fees) and its academic staff consists of university instructors
and other qualified professionals. While many of the courses offered
are centered on various aspects of Norwegian and Scandinavian
culture, others deal with topics of broad international interest,
and the Norwegian example is taken as a basis for discussion only.
All participants receive, upon qualification, the University's
Summer School Certificate of Achievement. Students from North
America may have credits certified to their home universities.

Summer
Course in Norwegian Language at the University of Bergen
The
Course is designed primarily for students studying Norwegian at
universities and colleges outside of Norway, but others are welcome
to apply. All instruction is in Norwegian. Therefore, beginners
are not accepted, and participants must be fluent enough to follow
lectures in Norwegian. The course is intended to give sixty students
practical training in oral and written Norwegian, in addition
to increasing their knowledge of Norwegian language, culture and
society.

SWEDEN
Courses
in Swedish Language
The Swedish Institute arranges
summer language courses of various lengths in cooperation with
the Folk High Schools in Sweden. Participants are given the possibility
to meet with a genuinely Swedish environment in a quiet, provincial
setting, which facilitates the concentration on the language studies.
The language of instruction is Swedish. There are no beginners'
classes. Classes, as well as individual and group studies, take
place during the week; compulsory activities are scheduled for
the weekend.

Swedish
Language Course at the University of Uppsala
The University of Uppsala hosts the Uppsala International
Summer Sessions (UISS) in association with Vuxenskolan. The courses
are 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks long. Participants are given the opportunity
to learn Swedish in a Swedish environment during morning sessions
and to learn about cultural, political and social life in Sweden
during afternoon sessions. The morning sessions are conducted
in Swedish; the afternoon sessions in English.

Swedish
Language Course at Lund University
Lund University hosts the International Swedish University
Programs (ISU), which arranges summer courses of various lengths
in association with Folkuniversitetet. The courses focus on giving
the participants a working knowledge of Swedish and are conducted
in Swedish from the start. Additional excursions and guest lectures
are aimed at giving the participants an insight into Swedish society.
