SCANDINAVIAN
CLUB
The University
of Alberta Scandinavian Club was started in 1983. Its purpose
is to promote interest in Scandinavian languages and cultures.
It was started by students enrolled in Scandinavian classes
with the intention of providing an opportunity to get together
outside of class and practise the language. The club has now
expanded to include students in other disciplines, exchange
students from Scandinavia, as well as many people off-campus
who are interested in Scandinavian culture. Some annual events
organized by the Scandinavian Club are the Christmas Party and
the Spring Food Fest. Occasionally the Club also hosts receptions
for visiting authors and lecturers. Other events in the past
have included wine and cheese parties, ski trips, bake sales
and showing of Scandinavian films. The Club meets weekly at
Dewey's for informal language practice at the Scandinavian
"Language Table."
