AWARDS AND BURSARIES


Canadian Institute for Nordic Studies (CINS):

  • $1500 bursaries (three awarded annually) to be applied for by students enrolled in an undergraduate language course in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian or Swedish at a Canadian university or college who are attending any recognized summer program offering language and/or culture courses in a Scandinavian language in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Torskeklubben-Founder's Prize
:

  • $2750 to be awarded annually on the basis of superior academic achievement to a student demonstrating dedication to the study of Scandinavian languages and culture and skill in language acquisition (by nomination from the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies).


Torskeklubben Student Bursaries

  • $1500 to all students who complete a single Major or Combined Honours Degree in Scandinavian Studies with a minimum grade average of B minus.
  • $300 to all students with a minimum grade of B minus in Norwegian 111 & 112 taken in the same year, and Norwegian 211 & 212 taken in the same year
  • $150 to all students with a minimum grade of B minus in 300-, 400- and 500-level Scandinavian courses.


The Lennart and Joan Petersson Vasa Centennial Prize
:

  • $1000 to be awarded on the basis of superior academic achievement to a student completing Swedish 211 & 212 taken in the same year, provided that the student's record is otherwise satisfactory.

The Marian Campbell Fund
:

  • $1500 to be awarded annually to a student as either an honors student or as a major in the Scandinavian program at the University of Alberta achieving the highest academic standing in Scandinavian courses (at discretion of University of Alberta Scandinavian program instructors).
  • Book prizes to top student who has completed Norwegian 111 & 112 taken in the same year, Norwegian 211 & 212 taken in the same year, Swedish 111 & 112 taken in the same year, and Swedish 211 & 212 taken in the same year.
