Community Education and the Translation of University Knowledge

Narratives of Citizenship hosted an interactive Roundtable Discussion, entitled "Community Education and the Translation of University Knowledge," as the culminating event of the conference. The Roundtable brought together a wealth of community leaders, academics, and administrators who are interested in the relationship between the University and various local constituencies who have not traditionally had access (or easy access) to the University's resources -- educational, volunteer, and research-related. One of the main goals is to come up with practical and useful ways that the University can reach out to these constituencies.

Participants were asked to complete a Community Education Survey. Participants who were not able to complete the survey at the roundtable are encouraged to submit an electronic copy to the conference Co-Chairs at the follwing address: aloys(at)ualberta.ca. Please use the subject heading "Community Education."

The Conference Co-Chairs, Nancy Van Styvendale and Aloys Fleischmann, wish to thank everyone involved for taking time from their busy schedules to attend the roundtable. Your commitment to the concept of accessible education that engages both the needs and interests of the wider Edmonton public serves as an example to us all.
