Graduate Awards

This list is by no means exhaustive and we encourage you to seek out other awards in your field, but here are some of the more common awards for which you may qualify.

SSHRC

Canada's Social Science and Humanities Research Council grants substantial awards every year. The application package is available on paper from Kim Brown or can be completed electronically at the SSHRC website.

FGSR

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research here at the U. of Alberta handles several awards of varying sizes and for various purposes, including full-funding awards and travel grants.

The FGSR also provides a list of externally-funded awards on their website.

Province of Alberta

Alberta also has an array of awards, including the Steinhauer.

EFS

The Department of English and Film Studies offers smaller awards for travel and research. You can ask Kim Brown for applications for the Mary Louise Imrie award, and the Christie Award. The department also has a page of awards for general funding as well as travel funding.

GSA

The Graduate Students' Association offers a travel award, applications for which are evaluated once per semester. This award is a competition, so funding is not guaranteed.
