13. Classroom vs Computer (Douglas Bruce)

 

Missing "the intimacy and spontaneity of the classroom": absence of voices; more courage needed to utter a word than write it down; the written seems contrived and forced; missing body language and eye contact; lack of spontaneity in discussion; tends towards miniaturized essays; harder to intervene; isolating experience; absence of Shelley's company.

Advantages of: ability to comment at any time, work at one's own pace; greater eloquence of everyone; more considered responses.
