Lewis H. Thomas Distinguished Speaker

Dr. Allen Isaacman

Regents Professor of History as the University of Minnesota, Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Global Change at the University of Minnesota, MacArthur Fellow, editor of the widely acclaimed Social History of Africa series and current President of the African Studies Association. Dr. Isaacman is a leading historian of Mozambique and southern Africa, publishing extensively on themes of the colonial encounter, slave and maroon communities, African resistance and peasants and agrarian change. He will be giving two talks, the first reflecting on historical practice, and the second on key issues raised by his current research:
