integrating body and mind through awareness and movement

I have stopped teaching yoga to focus on other commitments. If you are looking for a yoga class in Edmonton, I highly recommend True Yoga, run by Melissa Wasserfall. This is a traditional Ashtanga school with classes to suit most levels--although if you feel very remedial or inexperienced I suggest you call Melissa and explain your situation before attending a class.

Thanks to all my past students for your enthusiasm and support.

Body-Mind Yoga teacher:

Cressida Heyes has studied yoga for twenty years, and it continues to form the basis of her physical and spiritual self-care practices. She has completed three teacher training certifications: with the Yoga Association of Alberta under the supervision of Marjorie Brese, with Nancy Crum Stechert (Iyengar style) in Colorado, and with the Nicky Knoff yoga school in Cairns, Australia (Foundation and Intermediate levels--including yoga therapy and pregnancy yoga). Her approach is eclectic and draws on her professional training as a university teacher as well as her experience of deep asana practice and energetic transformation. She aims to help each student to realise her or his potential, both physically and emotionally.

Five good reasons to choose Body-Mind Yoga:

  • My international training in different styles and aspects of yoga enables me to offer a holistic experience: you'll learn meditation, pranayama (breathing), asana (posture), and relaxation. You'll do some more vigorous pose sequences (vinyasa) as well as stretching in static poses (often described as "hatha yoga").
  • I prefer when possible to teach two hour classes: there's actually time to do a meditation, some pranayama, a good asana workout (including holding the poses for deep muscular and energetic release) and have a relaxation (savasana) that integrates the practice.
  • I only teach in specially designed studios that are clean, well equipped, private, and cosy. No more grubby, chilly community league halls!
  • By signing up for a series of classes, you get a cumulative learning experience, instead of trying to slot in to whatever is going on at a drop-in class. You feel more confident of your own abilities and you learn yoga that you can take home to practice. (Of course, if you miss a class or two, you can always catch up!)
  • My classes are small and you get individual attention. Just having someone pay attention to what YOU need, rather than directing a crowd from the front of the room, can make a huge difference to the effects of yoga on body and mind.
