I hold a Canada Research Chair, which is a federally funded research
position designed to further research in Canada that is significant for
Canadian life and economy. (Link to the home page of the CRC program.
) In applying for such a position one submits a research
proposal which then guides one's work in the following years.
Here is a link to my
proposal which is concerned with intelligent reactions to the fact
that one's thinking powers are very limited. Also a link to a poster
describing the project, which was used at a U of Alberta
gathering.
Documents put out by the university of Alberta administration have a semi-literate quality that at first amused me. Now I find it insulting. Here's a random selection. Send me your favourites.
An engaging video on stories about our talented
people serving through knowledge will be shown and Q&A session will
follow.
As a key stake holder associated with the
office of the dean of arts, I strongly encourage you to attend.
( Is this something to do with vampires?
And who is the key stake holder, the I or the you?)
One of key functions provided by senior faculty is mentoring of junior faculty and graduate students. The concept originates with Homer who entrusted his son to be raised by King Odysseus - a person who was knowledgeable and wise.
In the Faculty of Arts instructors complied with this policy by submitting course examinations directly to the Students Union to be made available as a study tool for students in a subsequent year or through the department chair, applied to the Faculty of Arts for exemption to the policy, supplying when possible representative questions rather than full examinations.
On May 15, the Provost and the Dean responded to suggestions voiced during the Dean's review that the Faculty engage in a visioning process to reflect on the changing landscapes of our Arts disciplines and our Faculty's responsiveness to the emerging contexts of the humanities, social sciences and fine arts in the twenty-first century.
