conference facilities on the third floor of the Edmonton Centre. The Delta
Edmonton Centre Suite Hotel is in the heart of downtown Edmonton, located
inside the Edmonton Centre mall. Participants will be offered accommodation
at reduced rates at the hotel (see this page for booking instructions).
The conference begins with onsite welcome and registration on Tuesday, August 3rd from 2:00 until 5:00 pm. This is on the 3rd floor of Edmonton Centre. Plenary sessions will be held in the Champlain room, while parallel sessions will be held in the Champlain, Laurier, and Mayfair rooms. All three rooms will be equipped with a laptop computer (PC), data projection, and overhead projection facilities for transparencies. Participants are advised to bring computer materials they wish to show (Powerpoints, web pages, etc.) on floppy disk or compact disk. Internet access is not available in the conference rooms. Lunch and tea and coffee breaks will be held in an adjacent space, the Mackenzie room. Lunch each day will be a choice of sandwiches, fresh vegetables, cheese, and fruit platters. For further details of the hotel, see their website. Picture gallery (click on pictures to enlarge):
The Conference Banquet, in the spirit of several previous IGEL meetings, will be held on a river, here the North Saskatchewan that flows through the heart of Edmonton. On Friday evening buses will take participants from the Delta Hotel down to Rafter's Landing, where we will board the Edmonton Queen at around 6:00 pm. The Queen is a paddle boat that navigates the river up and downstream two or three miles each way, providing breaktaking views of the city. Dinner, including a glass of wine, will be served in the restaurant on board. We will return to the buses for the journey back to the hotel at about 10:00 pm. For an overview of the Edmonton Queen, see this website. Picture gallery (click on pictures to enlarge):
