Computer Support Service

Front line technical support is the largest responsibilty that FACTS is charged with. We support 15 departments that consist of more than 500 FTE with over 1000 computer systems on our local networks.

Our front line technical support services consist of, but are not limited to the following for your adminstrative, teaching or research needs.

Local Area Network Services

Local File and Printer Sharing - We maintain several divisional file and print sharing servers for staff and faculty use. Please contact your divisional systems analyst for more information.

Web and Conferencing Services

Arts Web Server - www.arts.ualberta.ca

The Arts web server provides a location for web pages for Arts faculty and staff. The web space limits are larger than those availble through GPU. Scripts written in CGI, Perl or other languages can be run. All users of the Arts server must be vetted by a member of the Faculty of Arts who has a current valid GPU account. Here is the application form (Microsoft Word format). Taswar Bhatti is responsible for running the Arts web service. The server is an IBM Unix server running AIX 3.1.

Front Page Web Services - www.humanities.ualberta.ca

We offer Microsoft FrontPage services on our Windows 2000 web server. FrontPage 2000 extensions are installed. Contact Taswar Bhatti for assistance to establish a FrontPage site.
