Conditions
of Use
All users of public (University) computer resources are bound by
the CNS Conditions of Use policy. The Faculty of Arts imposes
the same rules of conduct upon its users, in Arts public facilities,
and on all its servers, networks, and equipment and facilities. Failure
to abide by these conditions of use will lead to a loss of your Arts
computing privileges.
Please read the CNS
Conditions of Use and respect the limits and responsibilities
which it imposes upon you. If you have any questions about appropriate
computing use in Arts, or if you wish to raise a caution or register
a complaint, please contact Alex.Schwarzer@UAlberta.ca.
University Network Bandwidth - Acceptable
Usage
The Faculty of Arts provides network connectivity for all departments
to the campus backbone and Internet and is constantly monitored by
Computing and Network Services.
The campus network is maintained so that faculty and staff can perform
their academic, research or administrative functions. The network
is not designed nor intended for personal pursuits such as movie and
music downloading.
Downloading of music and movies on the campus network carries various
legal, technical, and security related concerns.
Please restrict your internet usage to your academic/professional
functions only. Use an alternate internet service provider for your
personal interests. Finally, please do not transfer (upload/download)
copyrighted materials on the campus network. The university network
is being monitored by various agencies.
Faculty Front Line Technical Support Guidelines
In order to assist our technical support staff in setting priorities
and allowing them to accomplish their large mandate, the following
guidelines are proposed to help Arts departments set priorities for
work. We will be glad to meet with the department to customize or
revise these points, in light of particular circumstances:
Servers and network issues have our top priority as they usually
affect the greastest number of people and FACTS is the only group
who is qualified and knowledgeable to address these areas.
Administrative users are scheduled first; faculty second; graduate
students third priority one on each visit is to get the user up and
working; please help us by not adding on task after task, once you
have your analyst in your grasp.
Please ensure that the tech support person has reviewed and "signed
off" on a computer system purchase or upgrade; our tech support
staff cannot support unknown or unusual systems or equipment.
Computers only please! no celluar phones, photocopiers, faxes, or
other non-computer equipment.
