Needs Assessment

The needs assessment, including student surveys and employer focus groups, was conducted between March and October, 2002. Click to view the Executive Summary of the assessment results.

Instructional Design and Implementation

Our project continued with the development of instructional material and learning strategies that are focused on arts students needs and geared to meet employers' expectations. These learning materials, incorporated into the Tech Edge online modules, were piloted and assessed in several academic courses in the fall of 2003. E-portfolio Implementation

An electronic portfolio (e-portfolio) is a crucial part of the concept of cumulative skill building for arts students. An e-portfolio is a secure, web-based system which permits students to submit pieces of academic work electronically, and to which instructors and other assessors may securely connect to provide their evaluation and assessment of the work. The work, with its assessment, is maintained over time, and the student can make selections of the material available to others. The e-portfolio can be extremely valuable when the student moves on to the world of work; rather than presenting a dry transcript of courses and marks, it is a living record of the work completed and the assessment of it, which can be shared with prospective employers and potential collaborators.
