Welcome to the Canadian Organ Music Web Site

The purpose of the Canadian Organ Music Web Site is to provide a resource for concert organists, students, church musicians and others who seek information about Canadian organ music. The aim is to create a centralized source of information for performers, composers and scholars. Work on this project was initiated by Marnie Giesbrecht and organists in graduate student programs in the Department of Music, University of Alberta.

The web site began with the work of Gertrude Olford, DMus, University of Alberta, 1997. Her thesis work included a significant essay "Selected Canadian Solo Organ Music 1981-1996: Introduction and Annotated Catalogue." In February, 2002, Dr. Olford's catalogue was made available on the web site of Marnie Giesbrecht www.arts.ualberta.ca/~musorg thanks to the skillful, invaluable assistance of Aimée Morrison and the University of Alberta Faculty of Arts "Technologies for Learning Centre." In spring 2002, U of A graduate students Jennifer Goodine, Gayle Martin, and Hyo Young Park entered the catalogue information into database format, condensing the annotations to fit the allotted space. Peter Ryan took over the work of Aimée Morrison in fall 2002 and together with Taswar Bhatti, the searchable database was made available on the internet. Marnie Giesbrecht and graduate organ students will continue to update the database and make new entries of Canadian organ works composed from 1981 to the present. MMus student Gary Tong is working on the project in 2002-2003.
