    Alberta Ukrainian Centennial Commemorative Scholarship

    Applicants must be residents of Alberta or residents of Ukraine and be enrolled or planning to enrol in full-time study at the graduate level.

    Value: $12,500 and living allowance of $8,000. Includes tuition and $500 for books and materials. In addition, $1,000 research stipend and one return airfare.

The José R.Varela
Memorial Travel Grant

The grant is awarded to enhance the quality and dissemination of graduate research in MLCS.

  • All areas of research in the department are supported.

  • The grant is designed to encourage graduate students to become active in their respective fields of research and expose their work at national and international venues.

    Specifically, the grant is provided to facilitate the presentation of papers at scholarly conferences.

  • All full-time or part-time graduate students in MLCS are eligible.

Clifford H. Skitch Graduate Student Travel Fund

The grant is awarded to assist Faculty of Arts graduate students in the Social Sciences (e.g., applied linguistics).
  • Maximum annual allocation is $250.00

  • The purpose of the fund is to further research by supporting travel to (a) conferences and (b) libraries or archives.

  • Students must apply to the MLCS Graduate Coordinator, clearly stating the purpose of the travel and the way in which it fits the student's program.

  • Allocations are for the September-August period. All funds must be spent by the end of August.


FGSR Research Travel Grants

All students registered full-time in graduate programs are eligible to apply for a research travel grant (Mary Louise Imrie Graduate Student Award or J Gordon Kaplan Graduate Student Award), once during a graduate program.
  • $200 - $600 for master's students
  • $200 - $800 for doctoral students
